Jiu-Jitsu Classes
In this class will focus on your ground game and take downs. The class will work on disabling the attempted take down, how, and what positions to be aware of if taken down. Once you’re on the ground, you will learn offensive and defensive holds. During this class you will get full access to all the facilities we offer at Rocky’s Dojo and Gym.
Our Instructor
Lorenzo Clark is an experienced and passionate mixed martial arts artist with an extensive background in boxing and jiu-jitsu. His MMA record is 6-1. He has 13 years experienced overall in MMA, has a brown belt in jiu-jitsu. He has experienced teaching both youth and adults. Come on by Rocky’s and watch a class!
A Brief History of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu
“A contemporary martial arts discipline with ancient origins. The term ‘jiu jitsu’ originates from the Japanese ‘Jū’ meaning ‘gentle’ and ‘Jutsu’ meaning ‘art’; essentially, jiu jitsu embodies the ‘gentle art’.
Brazilian Jiu Jitsu primarily emphasizes ground-based combat, employing principles of leverage, angles, pressure, and timing, along with understanding of human anatomy, to achieve a non-violent submission of the opponent. Diverging from other martial arts which focus on strikes and kicks, jiu jitsu concentrates on close-contact grappling holds, techniques, and the application of chokes and joint manipulations.
History The Brazilian variant of jiu jitsu emerged from the introduction of Japanese jiu jitsu and judo to South America in the early 1900s, evolving into a distinct martial art through the efforts of Brazilian pioneers.
